CRITICAL FACILITIES

Ricoh-owned data center and 24/7/365 network operations center (NOC) in Commack, NY caters to meet customer demands for secure private cloud services, disaster recovery, and IT support services. The 10,000 sq ft SSAE-16 compliant data center provides a physically secure infrastructure with N+1 power and backup, disaster recovery services, and multiple carrier service access via a mix of OC12, OC48, and GbE multiple route fiber to the facility. Housed on an existing building within the Forest Laboratories cam-pus with open web steel joists main roof framing support, the major work in the upgrading of the facility involved the additions of mechanical equipment at the roof. Existing steel joists impacted by the additional loadings were appropriately reinforced.

The project involved the construction of a new 166,500 GSF annexed building and 48,000 GSF modernization of an exising facility. The new building utilized cast-in-place concrete slabs on composite metal deck floor construction supported by steel wide flange beam and girder framing. To minimize the floor to floor height, the First Floor was constructed using cast-in-place reinforced concrete flat plates. The site is in close proximity to railroad traffic with potential of ground borne vibration disturbances that may impact the operation of sensitive equipment inside the laboratory building. The new construction is also situated in the site that was subjected to deep underground mining in the past and that a potential 20 feet sink hole could develop anywhere beneath the new structure.
