Tenant fit-out work for the top five floors on a new concrete building at the Hudson Yards Development. The project requires the design of four (4) L-Shape and one (1) U-Shape floating staircases with 4-inch thick saw-tooth plate center stringers supported only at two ends. The design was carried out prior to the completion of the base building and advance package for the staircase supports was issued for the creation of the required openings during the base building construction phase and making sure that primary structure were designed and built for the staircase reactions. Collaborated with the base building Engineer of Record for the structural modification of the base building to accommodate the tenant work floor opening requirements.

4 World Trade Center, NYC





Two floors of tenant fit-out work for Television Studios and Offices at 49th and 50th Floors of the then newly constructed 4 World Trade Center. The floors were originally designed for light live load suitable for use as offices only. With required higher live load at large critical equipment and storage rooms as well as substantial infrastructure equipment, major portion of the 50th floor required considerable reinforcing of the existing steel beams. Cutting and the removal of existing steel frame were required for the communicating staircase. The enhancement of the existing structure included the reinforcement of the main edge beam that cantilevers 36-ft at each ends of the two main edge columns with 80-ft spacing utilizing 1-inch thick plate welded to the underside of the beam. Temporary shoring were included in the design to control the loss of stiffness during welding operation and ensure that the exterior façade are fully supported during the complex strengthening process.

Two floors of tenant fit-out work in a landmark building that required strengthening of arch terracotta floor system to accommodate public assembly spaces and heavily loaded UPS room. The communicating staircase is comprised of welded steel plate railing system that also serve as the main stringer. The staircase opening required the removal of a main steel girder and the splicing of two separate existing steel beams so as not to damage and preserve the terracotta arch floors they carry. Rigorous design calculations were prepared to demonstrate to the Landlord the viability of the existing floors to support the higher load requirements than the loads indicated in the Certificate of Occupancy.

Tenant fit-out out work on the 12th Floor of the existing building with structural work involved the installation of new operable partition hung from the existing Roof framing. The fit-out work also required the replacement of existing access floor systems with a raised lightweight concrete slab on high density styrofoam. The impacted portions of the existing Roof framing and the raised concrete slab were checked and found to be structurally adequate.

Tenant fit-out work for three floors of a landmark building including the design of a bleacher type staircase that not only function as a main connection between two floors but as a place for gathering as well. Zig-zag shape welded tube sections were used as stringers to achieve the necessary stiffness to mitigate structural vibrations due to footfall and meet the much stringent criteria for an occupied space as opposed to just for normal transient usage for a staircase. The staircase was strategically located to allow the safe removal of existing members without the need to reinforce the members that are to remain.
