The project was proposed back in 2015 and after a lengthy three years approval process and with all the designs were completed, the estimated construction cost was $50M over the original budget. The developer decided to commission a structural engineer to conceptualize the most cost-effective structural system based on new solicited architectural proposals. The structural conceptualization involved the investigation on two options – two blocks of cast-in-place concrete high-rise and four blocks of cold-formed steel frame mid-rise structure. Provided the developer with the advantages and disadvantages for both options which aid the developer to make a decision to adopt the high-rise option and brought the project back on track.

Conceptualization of large scale high-rise construction projects for one of the largest developers in Hong Kong. Performed optimization on the overall lateral structural system on concrete structures including utilizing steel reinforcement as part of analytical computer model simulation of coupled shear walls and column-beam rigid frames. Established rule of thumb for beneficial implementation of either BS8110 or the Load Factor Method permitted in the HK Code of Practice for Structural Use of Concrete to certain concrete building heights and aspect ratios.
